Bass fishing charters are now in, because definitely bass fishing is really rocking our boats with a flowing number of patrons already. It has been the talk of the town since it was introduced in the late 1700s and has reached its level of popularity to the extent that even young kids are enthralled to join such an activity.Bass fishing may be fun and enjoyable while you’re your sitting beside the lake as you spend your spare time with your family and friends but if you want you may plan a charter for all of them and experience the thrill and excitement of watching a school of bass fish run after your baits.Below is a list of the things that you should be reminded of when you plan to have a charter. See for yourself.• You must have a fishing license so that you will be authorized to take or possess either saltwater or freshwater fish and have a chance to participate fishing games but you should be mindful that we are consistent with the state and federal regulations. Securing a fishing license also contribute in ensuring the future of fishing in the state where we have the activity.• It is also advisable that we wear a soft soled shoe for our comfort. Boots, especially those that are intended for work, are big NO-NOs.• Bring with you seasickness pills if you that it is needed. It is important that you pack up enough of it for the whole trip. You should make it sure that you are physically fit before going into a charter for you to enjoy every minute.• Being on a charter means being exposed to the sun so you should not forget to have your sunglasses with you for protection. • Coolers should also go with the trip. This is intended for the fishes that are going to get caught. It is one of the vital things that we should not fail to remember for the reason that it would help retain the freshness of the fish. You do not want to have a spoiled-looking fish right?• Check the weather forecast of the day. You would surely want to go out if the sun is up right? But you should always bring with you rain gear for special purposes. You should always expect for a sudden change of condition.Well, what else should you bring?Food, of course. You will be out there in the middle of the sea or lake so you better bring enough food and beverage for all of you because, for sure, you do not want to eat raw fish or gulp the salty water when you get hungry and thirsty, right? To add up, have your camera, video cam or the like so you will have something that would remind you of your trip anytime you want. Be sure that you have all of these things to have a really pleasurable trip while you are in the fly fishing charter. There are a lot of bass fishing guides that could offer you great charters. Canada Fly in Fishing

Canada Fly In Fishing

For some reason fly in fishing is still somewhat of a secret. I don’t personally know anybody outside of our fishing party that goes on Canada fly in fishing trips.

When I stop to think about it I have mixed feelings. On one hand I think it would be awesome to share fly in fishing stories. On the other hand I know the lack of fishing pressure is part of the reason fly in fishing is so fruitful.

Then solitude is another reason I enjoy fly in fishing. I don’t dislike people but it’s nice to totally remove myself from civilization sometimes. This definitely adds to the experience too. You feel so remote and justifiably so. The plane ride in lets you see exactly how remote you are. You may see an occasional cabin on an occasional lake but for the most part civilization disappears almost as soon as you take off, often before.

The scene from the air is not only remote but totally beautiful. Countless huge lakes and river systems cover the landscape. Huge boulders can be seen on the bottom of certain lakes from the air. Islands, mountains and trees of different color splash the live canvas and you realize no artist could ever dream of the view that beholds you.

It’s funny but most outfitter brochures don’t mention this part of the experience. Maybe it’s because they take it for granted or they don’t think it’s important enough to put to print. Whatever the reason they are missing out on a selling point if they don’t mention the plane ride.

Of course the fly in is just the beginning of the fishing trip but it gets me stoked every time I experience it.

Now days we fly in to a cabin. We used to camp and rough it in tents but camping life takes a lot more effort than staying in a cabin. This gives us more time to fish and get proper rest in a real bed. Having a refrigerator, gas range, wood stove, sink, fresh well water, lights and a bed makes a big difference now.

When I was younger I loved a fly in fishing/camping trip. If you are into camping then your skills will likely be challenged in northern Canada. Not having refrigerator and keeping food fresh for a week is tough. Staying dry is tough also. The cost to camp may exceed the cost to simply get a cabin. You usually have a 100 – 150 pound weight limit and are charged more for additional weight. 50 cents and up per extra pound should be expected.

If you want to go on a fly in fishing/camping trip don’t do it to save money because you likely won’t. Camp because you like camping and enjoy a real challenge. Don’t attempt camping in northern Canada unless you are experienced with camping in a remote wilderness. Seriously. If you want to find out more information visit my website: CanadaFlyInFishingReview.com. You will find just about everything you need to know about Canada fly in fishing. What to expect and how to prepare yourself for the entire trip.

Once you settle in to your location it’s time to hit the water and catch some fish. I like to fly in and be there for the spring walleye opener or the week after. The fishing is killer and the bugs usually aren’t real bad yet. Whatever you do don’t forget to bring insect repellant. You will want something good and strong, I like pure DEET and Deep Woods Off. Put the Pure DEET On your clothing and spray the Deep Woods Off on your skin. If things are bad I just use the pure DEET on my exposed skin, I don’t like to but sometimes… Make sure not to get that stuff on your fishing line or tackle. Fish don’t care much for it.

I usually go to a lake north of Nakina, Ontario. I’m not going to give the name but it’s killer for walleye and huge northern pike. We usually fish walleye in the morning and evening and hit the pike waters during the day when the walleye go deep. Trolling the shoreline with Johnson Silver Minnows is almost always productive in the spring. Silver Minnows are a weedless spoon and the weedless works as good or better than any other “trollable” weedless pike lure I’ve used. getting up near and into the weeds where you get that spring pike action. Bring lots of twister tails also. Tip the Silver Minnow spoons with a twister tail when the fishing slows down. Sometimes it’s all that’s needed to turn pike on when the barometer gets funny. A bad day of fishing in Canada blows away my best days fishing back home. You may find those days when pike slow down are the good days to latch into those lunkers. I don’t know why but it certainly happens. The biggest pike I ever saw was caught mid day on one of those off days. My dad was fishing while the rest of us were taking a nap around the camp fire. He taught us all a good lesson that day.

The walleye fishing is phenomenal. It can seem like it’s too easy sometimes. I like to jig fish in the mouth of or a inlet river. Usually a jig head with a yellow or white twister tail does the trick. Jig it just off the bottom. I also like to use a lure called Mimic Minnow. They work nearly as good as live minnows when they get tired of jigs. Remember though if they don’t hit your jig change the twister tail to a different color. The color of the jig head usually isn’t as important. Mornings and evenings are great times to catch walleye. If there is a hole near camp try to get out there just before dark, anchor up, set up a lantern and jig away. Rock and sandy bottom areas work good too. Just be careful moving across the lake in the dark. Don’t try to venture out too far especially if there are rocks near the water surface.

After catching northern pike and walleye all day a fishermen tends to get hungry and there’s nothing like fresh caught walleye to fill his belly. Eating fresh fish every night for a week is heaven to.

A Canada fly in fishing trip gives me a shot of energy like nothing else, I feel like a kid again. All that fresh air, excitement and visual stimulation overloads my sensory station and I go on a natural high that takes weeks to come down from.

Then all I can think about is getting ready for my next Canada fly in fishing trip.

Atlantic Coast Saltwater Fishing

December 28, 2009 · Posted in Fishing Websites · Comment

Anglers fishing along the Atlantic Coast might choose to fish from the surf, jetties, piers, inlets, bridges, or by boat. The wide variety of saltwater fishing locations along the Atlantic Coast allows anglers of any age, sex or physical condition a chance to enjoy the sport.

Pier Fishing

Pier fishing can vary from the simple tackle to a few very complicated rigs. Beginners will feel very much at ease and many piers have a family atmosphere and lots of people willing to help each other learn. Calling ahead to commercial piers is one way to prepare. Anglers can also check regional websites for pier fishing reports and tips.

Common items to bring might include a cooler, ice, drinks, snacks, sunblock, insect repellent, knife, bait, rags, pliers, rod and reels, tackle, and a camera. It’s a good idea to create a list of items needed and pack them beforehand. You will also want to consider how you will transport all this gear onto the pier.

Surf fishing

Surf fishing is popular from Maine to Florida and in some areas of the Gulf Coast. Depending on the region, anglers may face rocky coasts, large waves and cold water or white sandy beaches with little or no wave action.

Depending on the season, location and species targeted, anglers may fish with one or several types of cut baits, live baits or with artificial lures. Surf anglers use long rods and spinning or conventional reels and often carry sand spikes to hold the rods and a cooler on wheels called a surf buggy.

Inshore Fishing

Inshore fishing is a good choice for many anglers. Inshore fishing can be done from small open boats and in some cases even from kayaks or other small craft. Inshore fishing varies depending on location, with anglers using bait, artificials or both techniques.

Deep Sea Fishing

Deep Sea or Offshore fishing is an exciting sport. Anglers fish for tuna, marlin, swordfish, mahi mahi, wahoo, sharks and other pelagic species. Depending on the species and location, anglers may troll, chum, chunk, jig, bottom fish, fly fish or use other techniques for these fish. Offshore fishing is sometimesdone from small boats, but many anglers prefer to hop on larger boats, often equipped with twin engines. In either case, the dangerous nature of offshore fishing demands that boats are equipped with an arsenal of safety gear.

Charter Boats

Charter boats are popular options in most saltwater fishing areas. A good local charter boat will provide anglers with a safe, enjoyable experience. Charter boats are typically larger than private boats and can usually accommodate 6 or more anglers.

Head Boats

Head boats are another good option for many anglers. Unlike charter boats, head boats carry large groups, sometimes over 50 anglers! Head boats have many advantages, including lower costs, shared resources and an atmosphere that makes it easy to learn new techniques from other anglers. The down side of head boats is that anglers have more competition and are much more likely to get tangled or feel crowded while fishing.

Catching Live Bait For Saltwater Fishing

Popular bait catching equipment includes cast nets, sabiki rigs, seines, dip nets, minnow and fish traps and umbrella nets. These options allow anglers to catch live bait such as shrimp, crabs, squid, silversides, glass minnows, mummichugs, spot, pinfish, pigfish, ballyhoo, herring, shad, eels and other small fish suitable a live baits or to store or use immediately as fresh baits.

What To Consider Before Ordering A Custom Fish Tank

December 17, 2009 · Posted in Fishing Websites · Comment

Are you interested in ordering a custom fish tank? If you are looking for a large fish tank or one that has a unique design you might just be. If you have yet to place your order, there are a number of important factors that you may first want to examine. These factors, which are outlined below, will help to ensure that purchasing a custom fish tank is right for you.
Perhaps, one of the most important factors to take into consideration, when looking to buy a custom fish tank, is the design that you would you like to have. Do you already have a custom fish tank design in mind? If you do not, you will want to come up with one or at least brainstorm all of your options. When doing so, it is important to remember that some fish tank manufacturers and suppliers have limitations on the type of custom fish tanks that they make. For instance, it is not uncommon to find a fish tank supplier that has a limited number of fish tank shapes, such as hexagons, octagons, and such. It is also important to examine size. Although many custom fish tanks are large in size, it is not uncommon for a fish tank manufacturer or supplier to limit the sizes that are available. These are factors that you will want to take into consideration before ordering a custom fish tank.
If you are able to find a fish tank supplier or a fish tank manufacturer that can provide you with the custom fish tank of your choice, the next factor that you will want to examine is price. When it comes to custom fish tanks, the prices are dependant on a number of different factors. For that reason, it is unlikely that you will be able to see a price listed on a website, should you be doing your shopping online. To get an accurate price or even just a close estimate, you may need to directly contact a fish tank manufacturer or a fish tank supplier. It is no secret that custom fish tanks can be quite expensive. Although they tend to be costly, you should be able to find some reasonably priced custom fish tanks. The only thing that you will want to do is make sure that you can truly afford the cost of a custom fish tank before placing your order.
In addition to making sure that you can afford the cost of a custom fish tank, it is also advised that you examine whether or not it will be worth it to you. In the United States and even all around the world for that matter, there are many individuals who make purchases on an impulse or on a whim. While many of these purchases will be put to good use, others will not be. When a purchase is not put to good use, it can actually be considered a waste of money. Before ordering a custom fish tank, you will want to make sure that you will be getting good use out of your custom fish tank and the money that you paid. To examine whether or not you will be, you are advised to examine the overall purpose of your custom fish tank and what its uses will be.
As with most other custom fish tanks, their main use is to typically display a large collection of fish. Are you planning on owning fish? If you are not, there might not be any need for you to purchase a custom fish tank. Aside from the obvious use, of owning a collection of fish, you will also want to examine the purchase of your custom fish tank. Whether it be for a home or for a business, custom fish tanks are often used for decorative purposes. If you regularly throw parties or small get-togethers then a custom fish tank may be perfect for your home, as it will help to enhance its beauty and the light that your guests see your home in. If you are a business owner, a custom fish tank can do the same thing for your business. From a business perspective, this is nice because public perception has a significant impact on the overall success of a business.
The above mentioned factors are just a few of the many that you will want to take into consideration, before ordering a custom fish tank. Custom fish tanks are ideal for both homes and business, but to ensure that you are wisely spending your money, you will want to think about your purchase and thoroughly examine the pros and cons of owning a custom fish tank before placing your order.

Fish: a Valuable Source of Nutrition

December 14, 2009 · Posted in Fishing Websites · Comment

Anything you catch in the sea is lawful for you, and all food from it, for your enjoyment and that of travellers… (Qur’an, 5:96)

The fact the average age of people developing and dying from heart disease is constantly decreasing has considerably increased the importance attached to coronary health. Although a great many advances have been registered in the treatment of heart disease, experts in the field basically recommend that careful precautions be taken before such diseases ever arise. Experts also recommend one important foodstuff for the healthy functioning of the heart and the prevention of disease: fish.

The reason why fish is such an important source of nutrition is that it both provides substances necessary for the human body and also reduces the risk of various diseases. For example, it has been revealed that when fish—which acts as a shield in terms of health with the omega-3 acid it contains—is consumed on a regular basis, it reduces the risk of heart disease and strengthens the immune system.

The fact that fish, the health benefits of which have only newly been scientifically registered, is an important nutritional source is revealed in the Qur’an. Almighty Allah makes the following references to seafood in the Qur’an: “It is He Who made the sea subservient to you so that you can eat fresh flesh from it…” (Qur’an, 16:14), “Anything you catch in the sea is lawful for you, and all food from it, for your enjoyment and that of travellers…” (Qur’an, 5:96) Furthermore, particular attention is drawn to fish in Surat al-Kahf, in which it is revealed that the Prophet Musa (as) set out on a long journey with his servant and that they took fish along with them to eat:

But when they reached their meeting-place, they forgot their fish which quickly burrowed its way into the sea. When they had gone a distance further on, he said to his servant, “Bring us our morning meal. Truly this journey of ours has made us tired.” He said, “Do you see what has happened? When we went to find shelter at the rock, I forgot the fish…” (Qur’an, 18:61-63)

It is noteworthy that in Surat al-Kahf fish should be specially chosen as a foodstuff after a long, tiring journey. Therefore, one of the pieces of wisdom in this tale may well be an indication of the nutritional benefits of fish. (Allah knows best.)

In fact, when we examine the nutritional properties of fish, we encounter some very striking facts. Fish, given to us as a blessing by our Lord, are a perfect food, particularly in terms of protein, vitamin D and trace elements (certain elements found in minimal quantities in the body but which are still of great importance to it). Due to the minerals they contain—such as phosphorus, sulphur and vanadium—fish encourages growth and enables tissues to recover. Fish meat also assists in the formation of healthy teeth and gums, benefits the complexion, makes the hair healthier and contributes to the fight against bacterial infection. It also plays an important role in the prevention of heart attacks as it beautifully regulates the level of cholesterol in the blood. It helps the body to break down and use starch and fats, making it stronger and more energetic. On the other hand, it also influences the functioning of mental activities. In the event that the vitamin D and other minerals contained in fish are not consumed in sufficient quantities, disorders such as rickets (bone weakness), gum disease, goitre and hyperthyroid may all arise. 1

In addition, modern science has also discovered that the omega-3 fatty acids in fish also occupy an important place in human health. These fats have even been described as essential fatty acids.

The Benefits of Omega-3 in Fish Oil

There are two kinds of unsaturated fatty acid in fish oil which are particularly important for our health: EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). EPA and DHA are known as polyunsaturated fats and contain the important omega-3 fatty acids. Since the fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 are not manufactured in the human body, they need to be taken in from the outside.

There is a large body of evidence relating to the benefits to human health of fish oil, the actual benefit stemming from its omega-3 fatty acid content. Despite being present in vegetable oils, these omega-3 fatty acids are less effective in relation to human health. However, marine plankton is very effective at turning omega-3 into EPA and DHA. When fish eat plankton, their constitution becomes much richer in EPA and DHA. That, in turn, makes fish one of the richest sources of these vitally important fatty acids.

Vital Benefits of the Fatty Acids Found in Fish

One of the main features of the fatty acids in fish is the contribution they make to the body’s energy production. These fatty acids carry out electron transfers by attaching themselves to oxygen in the body and permit energy to be produced for various chemical processes within it. There is therefore considerable evidence that a diet rich in fish oil helps combat fatigue and increases mental and physical capacity. Omega-3 increases the individual’s powers of concentration as much as it does his or her energy levels. There is a scientific foundation to the old saying “fish is good for the brain”: The main compound in brain fat is DHA, which contains omega-3 fatty acids.

The Importance of Fish for a Healthy Heart and Arteries

The omega-3 fatty acid in fish is acknowledged to protect against cardiovascular disease by reducing blood pressure and the cholesterol and triglyceride in the blood. 2 Triglyceride is a form of fat and resembles LDL (bad cholesterol) which is high in fat and low in protein content. A raised triglyceride level, especially together with high cholesterol, increases the risk of heart disease. In addition, fish oils reduce life-threatening post-heart attack abnormal heart rhythms.

In one study by the American Medical Association, it was observed that heart attack levels in women eating five portions of fish a week fell by one-third. This is thought to stem from the omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil causing less blood clotting. The normal speed of blood in our veins is 60 kmph (37.3 mph) and it is of vital importance for the blood to be of the right viscosity and for the density, quantity and speed to be at normal levels. The worst danger for our blood—apart from normal conditions of bleeding—is for it to clot and lose the ability to flow properly. Fish oils are also effective in reducing blood clotting by preventing the thrombocytes in the blood (blood platelets that concentrate the blood in the event of bleeding) from adhering to one another. Otherwise, blood thickening can lead to narrowing of the arteries. In turn, this can lead to many organs in the body—especially the heart, brain, eyes and kidneys—receiving an inadequate blood supply, function deceleration and eventually, loss of function. For example, when an artery is totally blocked on account of clotting this can lead to heart attack, paralysis or other disorders, depending on the location of the artery.

Omega-3 fatty acids also play an important role in the production of the molecule haemoglobin, that carries oxygen in the red blood cells, and in controlling the nutrients passing through the cell membrane. They also prevent the damaging effects of fats harmful to the body.

Importance for the Development of New Born Babies

Being an important component of the brain and eye, omega-3 fatty acids have been the subject of research, especially over the last 10 years, in connection with the needs of new born babies. There is a considerable body of evidence relating to the importance of omega-3 to the development of the foetus in the mother’s womb and of the new-born baby. Omega-3 is of the greatest importance for the proper development of the brain and nerves throughout pregnancy and in early babyhood. Scientists emphasise the importance of mother’s milk since it is a natural and perfect store of omega-3.

Benefits for Joint Health

The major risk in rheumatoid arthritis (a painful joint condition linked to rheumatism) is that of wearing of the joints, leading to irreparable damage. It has been proven that a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids prevents arthritis and reduces discomfort in swollen and sensitive joints.

Benefits Regarding the Healthy Functioning of the Brain and Nervous System

A large number of studies have revealed the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on the healthy functioning of the brain and nerves. In addition, it has been shown that fish oil reinforcement can reduce symptoms of depression and schizophrenia and prevent Alzheimer’s disease (a brain disease which causes loss of memory and hinders day-to-day activities). For example, reductions in such problems as anxiety, stress and sleeping difficulties have been observed in individuals suffering from depression who took 1 gram of omega-3 fatty acid over a period of 12 weeks. 3

Benefits against Inflammatory Disorders and Strengthening of the Immune System

At the same time, omega-3 fatty acids have an anti-inflammatory (infection preventing) function. Omega-3 can therefore be employed in the following diseases:

• Rheumatoid arthritis (joint infection linked to rheumatism),

• Osteoarthritis (a form of arthritis gradually degenerating the functions of joints)

• Ulcerative colitis (ulcers linked to the inflammation of the colon), and

• Lupus (a disease which causes patches on the skin).

It also protects myelin (the material surrounding nerve cells). It is therefore used in the treatment of

• Glaucoma (an eye disorder marked by abnormally high pressure within the eyeball that may even lead to blindness)

• Multiple sclerosis (a serious progressive disease resulting from tissue hardening in the brain and spinal cord),

• Osteoporosis (a disease leading to structural weakening in the bone structure)

• Diabetes patients.

In addition, it is also reported to be useful in the treatment of

• Migraine patients,

• Anorexia (a possibly fatal eating disorder)

• Burns

• Problems concerning skin health.

There is also wide-ranging evidence that societies such as the Greenland Eskimos and Japanese, who eat a lot of fish, rich in omega-3 fatty acid, have a much lower incidence of heart and artery disease, asthma and psoriasis. Fish is therefore recommended as a form of treatment and is particularly recommended by nutritionists on account of its proven benefits for coronary health.

Additional benefits to those outlined above are emerging every day. Moreover, it has only been possible to reveal the health benefits of fish by a great many scientists working in well-equipped research laboratories. The fact that such a valuable source of nutrition is indicated in the Qur’an, and especially that it is described as a fatigue eliminator in Surat al-Kahf, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. All the benefits provided by fish are a great blessing given us by our Lord. As with all foods, it is Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, Who has created the superior structure in fish for our benefit.

An Introduction to the Art of Fly-fishing

December 7, 2009 · Posted in Fishing Articles · Comment

Fly fishing differs from regular fishing because you don’t use a heavy lure and a light line. Instead, using a fake fly on the end of the line, you cast out a heavy line with a thinner leader on the end. Often a color of ribbon, thread, or fur is tied to the fly. This gives fish the impression that what they see is a bug that they eat. Fly fishing lines are much heavier than regular fishing line, but are often designed to float. There are two types of fly fishing. Dry fly fishing involves the fly remaining on the surface of the water. Wet water fly fishing involves sinking the fly down into the water. Both methods are very effective. The use of the techniques is up to the person fishing and the circumstances on “fishing trips.

Fly fishing is practiced throughout the United States and Canada. The most common states for fly fishing are Montana, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, California, and Alaska. This is because of the amount of fish flowing through the Rocky Mountain area. West Yellowstone is considered the major hub for great fly fishing. More fish are caught here than any other location. Areas of Canada including Alberta as well as other water areas throughout the world are great locations for fly fishing.

Fly fishing is a great sport enjoyed by fisherman all over the world. This method of fishing requires artificial flies, and a rod that is very flexible. The sport of fly fishing has been around since at least 200 A.D. The first knowledge of the sport is found in books written during that time period. Today the sport remains very popular. Most people fly fish for trout, salmon, and bass.

This sport of fly fishing continues to be very popular, with no sign of letting up any time soon. Fly fishing enthusiasts spend lots of time and money fly fishing. They buy the best equipment and travel to the best fishing locations, hoping to be lucky enough to catch that great fish swimming upstream.

Give A Man A Fish, Feed Him For A Day. Teach A Man To Fish, Feed Him For A Lifetime – Lao Tzu 101

December 7, 2009 · Posted in Fishing Articles · Comment

Lao Tzu was the founder of taoism, the mystical ‘way’ or ‘path’ that many have followed since. From way back between the 4th and 6th century BC, his amazing words echo down the centuries.
As well as many more wise sayings for which he is so well renowned.
One of the best known is the one quoted above, “Give a man a fish; feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish; feed him for a lifetime”, which has a wonderful analogy with the modern world of management today.
The metaphor of feeding someone and that sufficing to get them through one day, and one day alone shows that people can only be helped so far. If we help them and do things for them all the time, then they rely on us, which is not only unhealthy for their development of skills, but also potentially dangerous, if we are not there to help them one day, their very future is at risk.
The principle whereby we rely totally on the support, guidance and even nurturing of someone else, for too long a period, is typical of many modern management environments. The old-style ‘command and control’ management processes lead to employees only being required or even able to do what they were told, which puts great pressure on those doing the telling.
Not only that, but where employees are not provided with stimulating work and aren’t asked to challenge themselves mentally, this often leads to demotivation and then higher absence rates, as well as employee turnover that such boredom precipitates.
Lack of stimulation=boredom=frustration=leave to find something else.
Let’s look at the flip side, where we ‘teach a man to fish’. Not only does the man become self-sufficient and be able to survive without being provided for, but he has a sense of achievement and fulfillment. How good does an angler feel as he pulls a fish from the water?
Much better than when one is placed generously in front of him, merely to eat. Sure it may be good, for a while, to be provided for, but human psyche is bigger than that in a healthy human being. People need to be valued for who they are.
So – we ‘teach them to fish’. In the workplace, by teaching out people new skills, we validate them for who they are and the contribution they are able to make. They know they are useful and valued and with this confidence they do more. They learn that to stretch themselves is good. That they have within themselves untapped resources which show off the potential they have always had, now released.
Indeed ‘teaching them to fish’ realizes not just the material potential they have, but catalyses even bigger capabilities in them. Their development muscle has been stretched and exercised, so it becomes bigger and more capable.
The business upside for ‘teaching our people to fish’? Well, managers are able to offload some of their tactical workload to others who relish the opportunity. This frees managers to do more with more of their people.
A workplace environment that becomes the breeding ground for capable, committed and excited employees, straining at the leash to do more. Managers enable their business to become a developmental mixing bowl of ideas and capability like nothing before.
In a business world where the embodiment of excellent management is an operation that works at least as well (and sometimes better!), when the manager is absent is to be acknowledged as the purest quality.
And with that level of capability developed, all because the manager taught his people ‘how to fish’, business thrives.
In the hurried excitement of the crazy business world of today, how Lao Tzu would be impressed at the relevance of his ancient words.

Slowly but surely he will begin to nurture a desire to own his own fishing boat someday.
He will then begin, like all average American anglers, to look for a fishing boat that has been put up for sale. These boats are pretty good buys if you go in to it with your eyes wide open, remember, no one sells a boat because it sails too well. This does not mean that all the second hand fishing boats are not good deals, some of them are, but if you are in the market to get yourself a used fishing boat, you had better have some experienced hand do the checking for you. Repairs of a fishing boat are no joke, and you could least afford to change the motor of a boat, the reason why many boats are sold anyway.
If you are looking for a fishing boat you will probably want on that has a high speed, and accommodate at least four people. A common variety of fishing boats are the Bass Boats and the Runabouts. Americans are looking for a recreation boat and not a professional fishing vessel, and there are many out there for sale. For them having their own fishing boat is an exciting experience and an achievement of sorts. If you are just beginning out in this sport, you should keep your eyes peeled for signs that read “fishing boat for sale” and check out the offer even if you do not intend to buy one immediately.
Chances are you will be wanting one very soon and you will be building up your knowledge-base of fishing boats by asking around a bit. You will also be in a better position to make an informed decision when you do decide to buy your own boat.

Travel to Virginia Beach and Experience a Deep Sea or Striped Bass Fishing Charter Trip

December 4, 2009 · Posted in Fishing Articles · Comment

Inshore fishing on Virginia Beach charter boats may include trips for striped bass, sea bass, and both red and black drum while offshore fishing charters target tuna, sharks, dolphin, billfish and other species. The area is world famous for its saltwater fishing.
One well known fisherman is Captain Keith Harlan who fishes the Mega Bite out of Virginia Beach. He has fished local waters from the Eastern Shore, Chesapeake Bay, and Virginia Beach to Cape Hatteras for over 30 years. Captain Keith’s vast fishing experience also includes the waters of Barbados, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, Bermuda, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Key West.
In the summer months, offshore fishing from Virginia Beach is excellent. Captain Keith described Virginia offshore fishing saying, “Nothing is etched in stone with fishing around here but chasing yellowfin tuna thru much of the summer is our main activity”. These tuna like deeper water for the most part, often being caught in water from 30 to 100 fathoms. “We watch the satellite shots to get a general idea of how far north or south the tuna are” explained the Captain.
Fishing spots include the Norfolk Canyon, Cigar, Weather Buoy, Wayne’s World and others. These hotspots range up to 75 miles out of Rudee Inlet. In addition to yellowfin tuna, anglers catch bluefin, bigeye, skipjack and longfin albacore tuna, dolphin fish, wahoo, billfish and sharks.
Of interest to many anglers are the trips that reach the Norfolk Canyon. Just before reaching the canyon walls are slopes that are often very productive areas. Near the canyon walls, the bottom becomes steeper and rockier. Fish congregate along the drop offs to catch food that is caught in the hard running current. Along the edges are lobster traps which are marked by orange buoys or “lobster balls”. The buoys attract dolphin fish which in turn attract the larger marlin, swordfish and sharks which feed on them heavily. A trip by a buoy can be uneventful, or one or more lines might be attacked by mahi mahi, tuna, marlin or other fish.
Late August and September often feature the best fishing with anglers seeing larger numbers of tuna as well as an influx of wahoo and bull dolphin. Offshore fishing continues into October, when windy weather and falling water temperatures make fishing less productive.
After the offshore season winds down, Virginia anglers enjoy excellent striped bass fishing. Known locally as rockfish, these delicious fish migrate down the East Coast and congregate in the lower Chesapeake Bay and coastal waters from November thru March. Anglers sometimes catch monster rockfish, exceeding 50 lbs. The Virginia state record rockfish has been broken many times recently, with some of the biggest fish being caught out of Virginia Beach Virginia.
These beautiful gamefish love cold and windy weather and feed in immense schools along the coast. Local charter boat captains such as Captain Keith of the Mega Bite keep watch on local fishing and are usually able to find the fish reliably when a winter weather window of opportunity becomes available.

Fishing for Freshwater Trout

People been fishing for sport for in around fifty generations now. What started as a means of survival has become a favourite pastime in North America and beyond, creating a hunger for fishing tips and aspects of fishing to be revealed in many different contexts. Learning about fishing and learning about different types of fish can be very exciting and interesting to many people. Trout is the most common freshwater fish. They are equal to any other of the sport fish and they stand at the top of the food chain in most rivers and streams where they live. Years ago, a successful angler was judged by how many of these popular fish he could catch at one time, but now the wise angler practises catch-and-release tactics so the numbers of trout will always be plentiful. Part of what makes an angler a responsible one is caring for the sport of fishing and fish populations for generations to come. The most popular trout fish that anglers enjoy trying to lure in is known as the “brown trout”. The brown trout provides plenty of excitement for anglers and tests fishing skills. Because it often feeds on the surface, the brown trout is considered a fish designed for the angler. It is a cold-water fish that lives in lakes and streams and jumps around the most when the water temperature is just right The brown trout got its reputation from rich English gentleman who enjoyed the trout’s fight. The world record brown trout weighed around forty pounds and was taken in Arkansas in 1992. One of the most the most glamorized fish of the trout family actually is not a trout at all. Surprisingly, scientists have recently discovered the rainbow trout is actually a smaller cousin of the Pacific Salmon. Rainbow trout are considered a peaceful fish despite their family heritage. They coexist with any other fish in the stream. While the brown trout prefers slower water and calmer pools, the rainbow trout likes the more oxygen-rich fast running water. That enthusiasm makes the rainbow a favourite of the angler. There is yet another trout that is not actually a trout. The Brooke trout or “brookie” lives in the cooler streams of the north-eastern US and is related to the char. This makes it a relative of the lake trout rather than a member of the family. Because the fish is only found in wilderness areas, the Brooke trout is a special favourite with anglers. Wherever they’re found, fisherman can be sure the water is pure and the ecology unspoiled. The “brookie” is often criticized for being pretty but not necessarily smart. Although anglers praise them for their beauty, it’s well known that there are harder fish to catch. The world record for the biggest Brooke trout takes place in Canada in 1918. A fourteen-pound “brookie” was caught in the Nipigon River in Ontario, Canada. Other trout species include the red trout, a species that enjoys hiding in bracken and branches, and the deeper-water lake trout. Current population control laws protect the lake trout, requiring anglers to release catches that measure certain sizes. The size of the lake trout indicates its potential to spawn and release fertilized eggs. With continued programs of trout population protection and responsible fishing, the trout will certainly continue to survive for generations to come.
